Pallavi Kathak Gurukul
Our Workshops
At Pallavi Kathak Gurukul, our workshops are designed to deepen learning beyond the regular classroom setting. They offer immersive and enriching experiences that nurture not only technical growth, but also thoughtful reflection and holistic development.
In a country where access to Indian classical traditions can sometimes feel distant, these workshops help students deepen their connection to the art form and to their cultural roots. Through immersive practice and shared learning, students gain a meaningful glimpse into the richness of our Indian classical heritage.
Workshops Led by Guru Pallavi Tai

Under Tai’s guidance, students receive enrichment beyond the structured syllabus, allowing for deeper exploration of the art form. These offerings are open to both Gurukul students and outside learners, providing meaningful exposure to those who may not be able to commit to long-term training but are still eager to engage in serious, disciplined study. Sessions are offered both in person and online, ensuring accessibility while maintaining the integrity and rigor of traditional learning.

Tai also carries the light of Kathak beyond the walls of our Gurukul, sharing the richness of Indian classical dance and music with broader communities. Through lecture-demonstrations, workshops, and cultural engagements at institutions such as Colgate University and within diverse communities in NJ/NY, she actively contributes to the propagation and appreciation of Indian classical arts. These outreach efforts help foster cross-cultural dialogue, deeper understanding, and meaningful artistic exchange.
Workshops by Outside Scholars

Exposure to learning from distinguished guest scholars allows students to grow into more well-rounded and musically aware dancers. Workshops with accomplished tabla artists such as Pt. Ramdas Palsule and Shri Hiren Chate provide invaluable insight into rhythm, expanding students’ vocabulary and deepening their understanding of taal (rhythmic cycles) and laya (tempo). Through these interactions, dancers cultivate greater musical sensitivity, precision, and confidence in their practice and performance.

Learning from respected scholars in the field of Kathak and dance, such as Smt. Prajakta Atre and Prof Dr. Manasi Pandya Raghunandan, opens students to new ways of seeing and understanding the art form. Stepping beyond the familiar framework of the Gurukul allows dancers to expand their perspectives, engage with fresh ideas, and deepen their intellectual and artistic inquiry. Such exposure nurtures open-mindedness, critical thinking, and a broader appreciation of Kathak as a living, evolving tradition.
Riyaaz Retreat

We also offer immersive intensives, such as our Riyaaz Retreat — a focused, four-day experience dedicated to deep practice and growth. While students learn new choreography and refine technique, the true essence of the retreat lies in something far deeper.
Through these intensives, students have the rare opportunity to delve into the spirit of the Guru–Shishya parampara. The residency experience — living and learning alongside Guru Pallavi Tai — fosters a connection that goes beyond the classroom.

Being in close proximity to Tai for several days creates a unique bond, where learning happens not only through formal instruction, but also through observing her discipline, devotion, and the quiet wisdom reflected in even the simplest daily actions.

It is an experience of immersion, mentorship, and transformation that leaves a lasting impact on both the dancer and the individual.
