Pallavi Kathak Gurukul
Our Classes
At Pallavi Kathak Gurukul, we welcome students of all ages and experience levels into a nurturing and disciplined learning environment. Our classes are thoughtfully designed to provide a holistic Kathak education — rooted in tradition while encouraging growth, creativity, and personal expression.
From Beginner through Advanced levels, our structured training follows the Bharati Vidyapeeth curriculum and includes both theoretical and practical examinations. More than just preparing students for exams, our program fosters dedication, confidence, cultural understanding, and a deep appreciation for the art form.

Structured Levels: Beginner to Senior

Theory & Practical Examinations

Beyond Technique: Community & Spiritual Growth
Our curriculum is carefully designed to guide students from foundational training to advanced mastery through a structured and traditional progression.
Students advance through the levels of Beginners, Prarambhik, Praveshika Pratham, Praveshika Purna, Madhyama Pratham, Madhyama Purna, Upantya Visharad, and Visharad Purna, each stage building upon the previous with increasing depth and precision.

At every level, students train in:
-
Tatkaar (footwork)
-
Hastaks (hand gestures)
-
Layakari (rhythmic variations)
-
Chakkars (spins)
-
Tukdas and Tihais
-
Abhinaya (expressional storytelling)
-
Rhythmic awareness, posture, stamina, and stage presentation
As students progress, these elements are refined with greater complexity, endurance, theoretical understanding, and maturity in their dance.

Our levels are technically affiliated with the Bharati Vidyapeeth curriculum, ensuring structured, academically recognized training aligned with established standards of Kathak education. Students undergo both practical and theoretical examinations as part of their training.

-
Practical Exams assess technique, stamina, understanding of Taal and Laya (rhythm and speed), knowledge of compositions, and stage presentation.
-
Theory Exams deepen understanding of:
-
Kathak history and lineage
-
Taal structure and rhythmic theory
-
Terminology and repertoire
-
Cultural and spiritual foundations of the art form
-
This dual approach ensures that students grow not only as performers, but as knowledgeable practitioners of classical dance.
At Pallavi Kathak Gurukul, learning Kathak goes beyond mastering steps and compositions.
We cultivate:
-
A strong sense of community and unity
-
Respect for Guru–Shishya Parampara (mentor-disciple lineage and tradition)
-
Discipline, humility, and dedication
-
A deeper spiritual connection through movement and rhythm
Our Gurukul is a space where students grow artistically, intellectually, and spiritually — forming lifelong bonds and carrying forward the rich heritage of Kathak with integrity and devotion.
